Is Bang Energy Vegan?

It Depends

Not certified

Bang Energy's standard canned energy drinks do not contain animal-derived ingredients. The company confirms on its official FAQ that Bang Energy products are vegan. Key ingredients that once raised questions, including the creatyl-L-leucine (formerly marketed as "Super Creatine") and essential amino acids, are synthetically produced and not sourced from animals.

The catch: Cans labeled 'EAA Aminos' (the reformulated version) are vegan-friendly per the company, but cans still labeled 'BCAA Aminos' are not guaranteed vegan and remain in circulation. Bang also carries no third-party vegan certification, and its 'natural flavors' are not broken down by the manufacturer.

Brand

Bang Energy (now owned by Monster Beverage)

Bang Energy went through a significant ownership change when parent company VPX (Vital Pharmaceuticals) filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy in 2022 after losing a $293 million lawsuit to Monster Energy over false advertising of the "Super Creatine" label. Monster Beverage acquired Bang's assets for $362 million in 2023 and has been rebuilding the brand.

The creatyl-L-leucine ingredient is still in the formula but the "Super Creatine" branding was removed from packaging. Earlier versions of Bang contained BCAAs (branched-chain amino acids), which can be animal-derived, but the company switched to EAAs (essential amino acids) that are synthetically produced.

Current formulas also do not include taurine, removing another gray-area ingredient common in energy drinks. The Bang Hard Seltzer product line, which prompted Barnivore's "not vegan" designation, is a separate discontinued product and should not be confused with the main energy drink lineup.

No third-party vegan certification exists for Bang Energy. Important label check: the company says cans printed 'BCAA Aminos' are not guaranteed to be vegan, while the reformulated 'EAA Aminos' cans are, and both still turn up on shelves, so read the can rather than assuming.

Strict vegans uncomfortable with unverified "natural flavors" may also want to contact Monster/Bang directly for sourcing details.
