Vegan Ingredient Checker

Paste an ingredient list, or scan a photo of the label. We read every ingredient against 68 entries and tell you which are vegan, which aren’t, and which depend on the source.

How to read the results

Not vegan

Derived from an animal. If you want strictly vegan, avoid it.

Depends

Can be plant- or animal-derived. The label alone won’t say; check the brand.

Vegan

Plant-based, even if the name (cocoa butter, lactic acid) suggests otherwise.

A clean result is a strong signal, not a guarantee. See how we verify, or look a product up in the Is It Vegan? database.

Frequently asked

How does the vegan ingredient checker work?

Paste an ingredient list, or scan a photo of the label, and the tool reads each ingredient and tells you whether it is vegan, not vegan, or depends on the source, with the reason. It runs entirely in your browser, so nothing is uploaded.

Can I scan a label instead of typing?

Yes. Tap "Scan a label photo", take a picture of the ingredients panel (or pick one from your gallery), and the tool extracts the text and checks it automatically. Clear, well-lit photos read best.

If nothing is flagged, is the product definitely vegan?

A clean result means we did not spot a known animal or depends-on-source ingredient. It is a strong signal, not a guarantee. Always read the full label and any "may contain" notes, and look for a certified-vegan logo when it matters.

What does "depends on the source" mean?

Some ingredients (mono- and diglycerides, glycerin, natural flavors, sugar) can be made from either plants or animals. The label alone will not tell you, so you may need to check with the brand.
