Is Town House Crackers Vegan?

It Depends

Not certified

Town House Original crackers are vegan, they contain only enriched wheat flour, soybean oil, sugar, corn syrup, salt, leavening, and soy lecithin, with no animal ingredients. But most other Town House varieties contain whey, buttermilk, or cheese, which makes them off-limits for vegans. The line spans at least a dozen distinct flavors, and the majority of them are not vegan.

The catch: The Original flavor is clean, but nearly every other flavor in the lineup, FlipSides, Pita varieties, Flatbread Crisps, and Snacks with Cheese, contains dairy in the form of whey, buttermilk, or actual cheese. It is easy to grab the wrong box.

Brand

Kellanova (formerly Kellogg's)

The Original flavor (UPC 00030100100553) is confirmed vegan based on the official SmartLabel ingredient list: enriched flour, soybean oil, sugar, salt, corn syrup, leavening (baking soda, sodium acid pyrophosphate, monocalcium phosphate), and soy lecithin. No dairy, no eggs, no honey.

The FlipSides Original and House Seasoned flavors both contain whey and are labeled Kosher Dairy. The Sea Salt Pita and Mediterranean Herb Pita crackers contain whey.

The Parmesan and Basil Pita variety contains buttermilk, whey, and parmesan. The Italian Herb Flatbread Crisps contain whey.

The Tomato, Basil and Mozzarella Flatbread contains buttermilk and mozzarella cheese. The Snacks with Cheese variety is obviously dairy-containing.

If you stick strictly to the Original box (the plain round crackers in the classic packaging), you are fine. Reduced Fat Original is also reported to be vegan but always cross-check the label since formulations can shift.

The brand is now under Kellanova following the 2023 Kellogg's spinoff, so packaging may say either name depending on when the box was made.
