Is Hellmann's Vegan?

Hellmann's Real Mayonnaise contains soybean oil, water, whole eggs, egg yolks, distilled vinegar, salt, sugar, lemon juice concentrate, calcium disodium EDTA, and natural flavors. It is not vegan.

The same applies to Hellmann's Light Mayonnaise (also contains eggs), Olive Oil Mayo, and Spicy Mayo. All conventional lines use cage-free eggs but still use eggs.

The only vegan-safe options are the Plant-Based line. In the US and Canada it is sold as "Plant Based Mayo Spread and Dressing" and is certified by Vegan Action; it contains canola oil, water, modified food starch, distilled vinegar, salt, lemon juice concentrate, and paprika extract.

In the UK, Hellmann's launched its product as "Vegan Mayo" but rebranded the entire range to "Plant Based Mayo" in mid-2024, reformulating it to reduce rapeseed oil and add sunflower oil and xanthan gum; it remains fully vegan and is certified by both the Vegan Society and the European Vegetarian Union. The UK Plant Based range includes classic, garlic, chipotle, and bacon-flavor variants.

Foodservice versions exist too, including a 1-gallon Hellmann's Heavy Duty Vegan Mayonnaise and individual vegan sachets. If a product says "Plant Based" on the label, it is free from eggs and certified vegan.

Everything else in the range is not.
