Is Twix Vegan?

Twix packaging

Not Vegan

Not certified

Twix bars contain multiple dairy ingredients throughout every layer: skim milk powder and milk fat in the chocolate coating, whey permeate and lactose in the caramel, and palm fat in the shortbread biscuit base. No commercially available Twix variety (original, white chocolate, salted caramel, or Xtra) is vegan.

The catch: The milk chocolate coating alone carries skim milk, milk fat, and lactose. Dairy shows up in the caramel and biscuit layers too, so there is no workaround on any standard Twix product.

Verdict

Not Vegan

Brand

Mars, Incorporated

Every current Twix variant sold in the US and UK fails the vegan test. The standard Twix (original and Left/Right variants) lists skim milk powder, cocoa butter, milk fat, lactose, and whey permeate directly on the label per Mars ingredient disclosures.

The White Chocolate Twix adds full cream milk powder on top of that. The Salted Caramel Twix carries the same dairy lineup.

Mars has not released a plant-based or dairy-free version of Twix as of mid-2026. The shortbread biscuit and the caramel both use palm fat, which is technically plant-derived, but the dairy in the other components makes the bar non-vegan regardless.

Production facilities also handle milk as an allergen, so even trace-contamination concerns are present for strict vegans. There is no regional exception that makes any retail Twix vegan.

What makes it non-vegan

  • skim milk powder
  • milk fat
  • lactose
  • whey permeate (from milk)
  • full cream milk powder
