Is Orbit Gum Vegan?

Most Orbit flavors skip gelatin entirely, using soy lecithin as a binder instead, which is a genuine positive compared with many candy-coated gums. The problems lie elsewhere.

Glycerol (also listed as glycerin) is a standard humectant used across every Orbit variety, and it can be made from plant oils, animal tallow, or synthetic processes. Mars Wrigley has not confirmed the source.

The gum base is an even bigger black box: manufacturers keep the formula proprietary, and commercial gum bases sometimes include lanolin (from wool), glycerol esters of fatty acids (potentially animal), or polyisobutylene blends. Without a direct statement from the company, it is impossible to rule those out.

Orbit Crystal Mint is the one flavor with a more concrete non-vegan concern, as multiple ingredient trackers have identified gelatin in its liquid-filled center beads. Colorful flavors (Bubblemint, Strawberry) add synthetic dyes like Red 40 and Yellow 6, which are not animal-derived but were developed using animal testing, a concern for stricter vegans.

The bottom line: casual vegans who apply a "no obvious animal products listed" standard may accept most Orbit flavors. Strict vegans who require confirmed plant-only sourcing throughout should treat Orbit as off-limits and choose a certified-vegan gum instead.
