Is Trident Gum Vegan?

The standard Trident stick gum line (Original, Spearmint, Perfect Peppermint, Tropical Twist, Watermelon Twist, Cinnamon, Bubblegum) lists these main ingredients: sorbitol, gum base, xylitol, glycerin, natural and artificial flavors, mannitol, aspartame, acesulfame potassium, BHT, and soy lecithin. No gelatin, carmine, shellac, or dairy appears in those formulations.

The gum base itself is a common grey area in chewing gum since its exact composition is trade-secret and could theoretically include animal-derived softeners, though this applies to virtually every major gum brand. Glycerin is the other sticking point: Mondelez has not publicly confirmed whether it is plant-sourced or tallow-derived for Trident.

Many vegan-leaning consumers accept it as likely plant-based given that plant glycerin is now the industry standard and cheaper, but the company has not made an official statement. Trident Vibes has been flagged inconsistently by different sources, so checking the label on that sub-line before purchasing is wise.

Trident Layers was largely discontinued but may still appear on shelves with old stock containing gelatin. Strict vegans who require guaranteed animal-free glycerin and fully disclosed gum base sourcing should choose a certified-vegan brand instead.
