Is Laffy Taffy Vegan?

It Depends

Not certified

Most Laffy Taffy products, the original bars, minis, and ropes, contain no animal ingredients and are generally considered vegan. The Stretchy and Tangy sub-line is a clear exception: it lists egg albumen (dried egg white) in its ingredient panel, making every flavor in that line off-limits for vegans.

The catch: The Stretchy and Tangy line uses egg albumen as a texture agent, the same product name, very different formula.

Brand

Ferrara (Wrigley)

Original bars, minis, and ropes (banana, strawberry, grape, watermelon, sour apple, cherry, and variety packs) share a base of corn syrup, sugar, palm oil, mono- and diglycerides, hydrogenated cottonseed oil, soy lecithin, and artificial or natural flavors, no eggs, no dairy, no gelatin, no carmine. The Stretchy and Tangy line has a completely different formula: its base is corn syrup, hydrogenated coconut oil, malic acid, egg albumen, sodium alginate, and calcium acetate.

Egg albumen appears as a functional ingredient (aerator and binder for texture), not a trace. Palm oil is present in the standard line and is a common ethical concern for strict vegans because of deforestation links, though it is technically plant-derived.

Mono- and diglycerides can come from animal or plant fat; Ferrara does not specify the source, so this is an ambiguity some strict vegans flag. No gelatin, no carmine, no beeswax, no shellac in any Laffy Taffy product currently on the US market.

Laff Bites and the standard mini assortment follow the original formula and are egg-free.
